La nostra casa
We have a spacious and bright apartment in the west of Amsterdam (80 m2). It's on the third floor of a 1930's building, that has been recently renovated. We have two bedrooms, a big kitchen and a living room. The master bedroom is at the back of the house, no citynoises, just singing birds waking you up! The bathroom and toilet are seperate. There's a very sunny balcony, with no neighbours glaring at you thanks to the chestnut tree.
There's lots of public transport just around the corner, the city centre is only a ten minute bikeride away (of course you can use our bikes), the very nice and lively westerpark is in walking distance.
We only have a double bed, but there's an extra room and we do have extra an matrasses... so if necessary we're able to turn the spare room into a proper bedroom.
I dintorni
The neighbourhood, Bos and Lommer, is upcoming, so you'll find yourself in a blend of new hip coffeebars, maroccan grocerystores and traditionally dutch bakeries. Bos en Lommer (Forest and Shade) has lost a bit of it's original meaning. In the 1930's it was built at the outskirts of the city, overlooking meadows. Now the neighbourhood is swallowed by more and more development, the city stretches on for much longer. But the broad streets with trees make the neighbourhood still distinct from the rest of Amsterdam.
One of the great things close by (5 minute walk) is our very favorite park the Westerpark. It has a couple of very nice bars and restaurants in it, a cinema and a theater. It's perfect for a jog, for a walk or a picknick. The trainstation Amsterdam-Sloterdijk is only a stone's throw away and has easy connection to the beach (half an hour), best way to dodge the traffic jam on sunny days.
Amsterdammers do everything by bike, and because Amsterdam really is small for a big city most is done within 20 minutes from the apartment. Unless you want to go all the way east, then you'll have to take a bit longer.
But dining is possible closeby as wel. Within two minutes walking there's Mediterranean kitchen, Indonesian, Turkish (in an old church), Italian and traditionally Dutch.But our kitchen is so big and nice that you might just want to cook yourself every night (;

Chi siamo
We (35 and 36 years old) are both freelance journalists. We both write for the Amsterdam based daily het Parool. Liedewij just wrote a guide for gardening on your balcony and a book on festivals world wide. She also teaches journalism now and then. Sander mainly writes about popmusic for different media. And no matter how many artists he's heard in all those years, Prince is still one of his favorites.
