Our fully furnished, light filled, and private 8 year old Colonial home was architect-designed with a modern sensibility. Its 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths on two levels comfortably accommodate four adults. There is a daybed in the guestroom for a fifth person. We recently renovated the interior design and repainted the house using rich Mexican colors. Large terracotta floor tiles provide rustic charm, and Latin-flavored artwork graces the walls throughout the home.
On the main level is a spacious great room that combines living, dining, and kitchen areas. The classic equipale sofas and chairs surround a large coffee table. The colorful dining room table seats six. An additional four guests can sit at the adjacent breakfast bar. The spacious kitchen is equipped for your cooking needs.
The home looks out on and has easy access to the grassy landscaped front yard, boasting an impressive lime tree. Two arched cast iron and glass doors lead from the living room to a shaded backyard patio where you can enjoy an al fresco lunch or barbecue. The grassy lawn in the backyard is the perfect spot for an impromptu picnic.
Also on the first level is the master bedroom, outfitted with a new Sealy pillowtop king bed with high quality cotton linens, ceiling fan, dresser, entertainment center (with TV, DVD, and stereo) and a cozy rocking chair. The large master bath has a colorful talavera tiled bathtub and built-in closets. The half bath on the first floor has a unique tile design and quatrefoil window.
Ascend the staircase that is sheltered by a tall rectangular boveda (or curved brick) ceiling with arched window. The two bedrooms on the second floor each have a soaring boveda ceiling with overhead fan and lighting, built-in closets, and an attached balcony. The larger balcony overlooks the distinctive neighborhood and botanical garden and has a new cast iron and tile patio set. The smaller balcony offers a chaise lounge and a view of the neighbor’s extensive garden.
One of the bedrooms has two twin beds with cozy linens and an attractive desk. The other room is set up as a studio/guest bedroom with a hand-carved daybed and sitting area, featuring a new pillowtop mattress, rocking chair and talavera-tiled table, and a desk with handcarved chair. The bathroom sports a cheery tiled shower and dark terracotta walls with another quatrefoil window.
The secure gated parking area accommodates one medium-sized car. Weekly maid and garden service is included in the rental. Utilities included except for cell and long distance phone calls and excessive gas/electricity use. Children ten (10) years and older welcome. Younger children possible with owner’s approval. No pets generally allowed although a small, "hypoallergenic" dog might be considered through special arrangement with owner. No smoking allowed.
This wonderful home is in excellent condition with fine new linens. Please consider visiting outside of the high season - the climate is temperate, traffic is lighter and there is always something interesting going on. (It is said that there are only 11 days in San Miguel when there is NOT a festival.)
See you in San Miguel!

My stay at Casa del Canto was just what I was looking for. The neighborhood is very safe and quiet. The house is kept impeccably clean by the charming housekeeper. This very spacious house is wonderfully decorated, with amazingly artistic Boveda ceilings, custom authentic tile work and a delightful backyard garden retreat - it had everything I needed! I think anyone would thoroughly enjoy their stay at Casa del Canto. - D Higgins, Sedona
Normally when I have chosen a vacation home on the Internet it is oversold. Casa del Canto was everything you said it would be and more. Talk about location! The house was within walking distance of El Jardin and close to the large botanical garden with indigenous plants. What a delight! We met many wonderful people in San Miguel and your house was perfect for entertaining. The large living room/dining room was well furnished with authentic Mexican pieces. The art work was a special touch. My wife particularly liked the backyard patio, which was great for privacy and relaxing. We really could not have had a nicer home and location. When we are back in San Miguel again, your house will be the first one we inquire about. Thanks again. - L Zedwick, Portland
We loved your casa! The house was beautifully decorated, very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. We especially enjoyed the backyard patio and yard. We all agreed we would love to return to your house and San Miguel de Allende. - J Cutting, Shoreline, WA
Casa del Canto was encantada! Above the city, quiet nights, cool neighborhood, and a lovely walk to town, it was a perfect way to spend our anniversary. The nearby botanical garden was unbelievable! There was so much to see and do that we'll have to plan another trip... D Thackeray, Carpinteria, CA
We walked into town every morning and evening and enjoyed the view along the way. Enjoyed listening to birds and church bells instead of car horns, and marveled at the simple life of the Jardin at night

Since Casa del Canto is our second home, we are open to nonsimultaneous exchanges. Airport shuttles from Leon (BJX) and Mexico City airports are reasonably priced and reliable. There is a large bilingual community in San Miguel so you will do just fine speaking only English (although experimenting with Spanish, even just a little, can be quite fun!).

Chi siamo
My husband and I met for the first time while traveling in Oaxaca, Mexico. Besides bestowing on me a wonderful life partner and second home, Mexico and its people have been the source of many delightful moments. My husband is a children's book author, speaker and publisher (tortugapress.com or matthewgollub.com). I work part time as a physician. Our very well-behaved and bookish 12 year old son enjoys guitar, snowboarding, tennis, and other sports, and reading books. We all enjoy getting to know new places and people.
